Voter turnout exceeds 50-percent threshold by noon
As many as 51.2 percent of all eligible voters had cast their ballots in Belarus' presidential election by 12 p.m. on Sunday, according to the central election commission.
The official results of the election would not be valid if the voter turnout was less than 50 percent.
As many as 59.8 percent reportedly voted in the Vitsyebsk region, 58.26 percent in the Homyel region, 52.09 percent in the Hrodna region, 51.82 percent in the Mahilyow region, 51.31 percent in the Minsk region, 50.07 percent in the Brest region, and 39.29 percent in the city of Minsk.
As many as 36.05 percent of the voters had cast their ballots during the October 6-10 early voting period. //
